Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, born on July 9, 1956, is an American actor. Popular for his dramatic and comedic performances, he is considered to be one of the most admired and well-known film actors worldwide, and is regarded as an American iconic cultural figure. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was the father of Janet Marylyn, a hospital worker, and Amos Mefford Hanks (an itinerant chef). His mother was initially named "Fraga" while his father was predominantly English. Tom grew up in an unnamed family that he considers "fractured". He had no acting experience in college, and attributes his inability be cast in a university production as the reason he started his career. He went to the downtown area, tried to audition for a local production of a theater, and was then invited by the director of the play to attend Cleveland and then his acting career was born.
